Helston dominate in double-header wins over Bude RFC

Helston secure two strong victories

Helston RFC returned to form in style on Saturday as both senior sides claimed commanding victories against Bude. The First XV secured a 34–17 win, while the Seconds ran rampant with a 70–3 triumph to extend their unbeaten run.

The week began with uncertainty, as injuries, work, and other commitments left just 28 players available. But the Helston rugby community rallied, with last-minute additions and the welcome return of familiar faces ensuring both sides could take to the field—a key target for the club this season.

Training in the build-up reflected renewed focus and intensity following defeat to Newquay Hornets the previous weekend. Historically a side that thrives on momentum, Helston responded quickly to their early setback in the campaign, delivering a performance that offered glimpses of their true potential.

Bude arrived at Clodgey Lane buoyed by a 50–0 victory over Falmouth, but a string of injuries left them with a bare 15. An early knock reduced them further to 14 men, leaving Helston well-placed to dictate the contest. The hosts capitalised with strong defensive work, sharp attacking play, and an overall confidence-building display that sets them back on course for the season ahead.

Meanwhile, the Seconds turned on the style, producing a flowing and dominant performance that belied the fact many players had not trained together. Their emphatic 70–3 victory continues a remarkable unbeaten streak and underlines the depth of quality across the squad.

With both sides hitting their stride, Helston now look ahead to a tough test as they travel to face Bideford in the national cup this Saturday.
